GOSHEN-ELKHART MUSIC TEACHERS’ ASSOC. Minutes-Feb.13, 2009 The meeting was held at Goshen College Music Center, Room 100.Present were: Cindy Hawkins, Candy Henkler, Juliana Lockman, Janice Verace, Carolyn Hertzler, Earline Lewis, Evelyn Stichter, Sabina Rosentrater, Ellen Rowland, Ellen Shearer, Nancy Ludden & Karin Hartman. We began with our scheduled program: Music Theory & Appreciation in the Piano Studio, presented by Ellen Shearer. She gave numerous lists of various theory applications & music appreciation/history ideas that we can use in our own studios. She brought MANY items from her own studio to share with us & had also contacted a hardware/software facility in Texas to obtain their listings & recommendations. It is: peggy@romeomusic, net. Business meeting: Candy read the minutes from the 1/9 meeting and the current balance of $3434.43 in our account. They were approved as read. Newspaper articles about us or our students are always accepted by Earline Lewis for our history file. **If you send things into a newspaper, please mention gemta.net in the information given. Website update is as follows: gemta.net is up and running. MTNA has added a ‘find a teacher ‘link. There is still the problem that no one but Candy can see all the things that have been added or would like to add. David Needham from MTNA is hard to get to talk to, so I am still trying, but will confer with my son, who might be able to do it for us. The Certification study group has been meeting every Fri. morning at Candy’s or in Nappanee for a few hours. Carolyn stated that the rules governing Certification will change in 2010, so those who are considering doing this should get started now! Carolyn gave an update on Miriam Byler, recuperating after a stroke, following a valve replacement. She is at The Maples @ Waterford Crossing & there is no piano there at all. Her husband would like to start a fund to purchase a piano for The Maples. Carolyn will find out more information as we would like to give some funds for this. Clavier & Keyboard Companion Magazines have joined forces to publish Clavier Companion. Those subscribing have received their first issue. (If you were not at this meeting, yours is waiting for you.)
