| GEMTA’s May meeting was held May 13, 2011, at the home of Karin Hartman. Present were Patricia Puffer, Maxine Yoder, Juliana Lockman, Karin Hartman, Carolyn Hertzler, Laurie Miller, Candy Henkler, and Evelyn Stichter.
The minutes from the April meeting were read. Carolyn made a motion to accept the minutes as read, Juliana seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
At the time of the meeting, our checking account had a balance of $1780.29. Maxine announced that some members had already sent in their dues for the coming year.
Web report: everything is now on the site except the November meeting minutes.
Piano Ensemble report: registration is now closed. About 60 students will be participating. Seven pianos will be used. Brian Wiebe now has the music. The first rehearsal is at 8:00 the Saturday of the performance. See email from Juliana for specific times for individual levels. Juliana needs help with registration, overseeing students, and providing food for a teachers’ lunch between rehearsals and the performance. A sign-up sheet was passed around to allow members the opportunity to volunteer.
Teachers’ Recital: is scheduled for June 11, 10:00 AM at Hubbard Hill. Four musicians are planning on performing. More participants are welcome.
New officers were then installed: Evelyn as President, Cindy as Vice President, Karin as Secretary, and Maxine as Treasurer.
Up-coming events: Elkhart Symphony at Goshen College Saturday. Guild is scheduled for May 19-20 at the Piano Market Plus. Recitals for Juliana’s and Karin’s students the next couple of weekends. Evelyn’s Royal Conservatory Theory testing is Saturday, May 14.
Motion to adjourn was made by Juliana, seconded Maxine. The motion passed.
Our program consisted of members playing duets. Participants included Laurie Miller and Carolyn Hertzler playing Schubert’s “March Militare,” Juliana Lockman and Karin Hartman playing three movements from Ravel’s “Mother Goose Suite,” Juliana and Maxine Yoder performing “Dance of the Rosebuds” by Keats, and a variation piece based on Chopsticks played by Evelyn Stichter and Candy Henkler. We ended the program time by playing music other members brought just for the fun of collaborating. Finally, we enjoyed brunch provided by members.
Respectfully submitted,
Karin Hartman, Secretary |
