GEMTA Minutes – October 16, 2009
Our October 16, 2009 GEMTA meeting was held at the home of Patricia
Puffer with 10 members present. We welcomed Andrea Stephen as a guest of
Candy Henkler. Members present were Laura Johnson, Cindy Hawkins,
Carolyn Hertzler, Karin Hartman, Nancy Ludden, Candy Henkler, Lori
Reynolds, Janice Verace, Maxine Yoder, and Pat Puffer.
Minutes and Treasurer's report were approved.
Treasurer's Balance - $2,798.84
There was some discussion about the GEMTA website. Several teachers
are getting new students as a result of the website. Some questions
about building websites will be answered by Lola McIntyre at our March
Sharing from IMTA Conference - Lola McIntyre had an excellent
presentation on technology by using a Power Point slide presentation.
Philip Keveren did an interesting presentation on chord
The recital included strings, piano and a vocal soloist.
AIM Updates - Candy read a list of assignments for jobs at AIM. A
paper was passed where members could indicate what food item they could
provide for our lunch and snacks. Ribbons and medals will be available
for children who participate in AIM.
AIM festival will be Saturday, Nov. 21. Deadline for sending names
of students and money to Candy Henkler is October 21, 2009.
Important dates - Elkhart Symphony Concert will be Saturday, October
24 at 7:30 at Memorial H. S. Featured artist is Wendy Warner, cello.
Fundraiser for Symphony will be November 14, A Wreath for All Seasons, @ the Elcona Country Club.
Karin encouraged us to enter students in the Guild Competition which
will be held May 20 & 21. Teachers need to join soon so they can receive
Cindy adjourned the business meeting .
For our program Pat shared excellent ideas which she uses in her
studio. Members also shared teaching strategies which have been
successful for them. Rewards are a helpful incentive for many students.
We also discussed how to help students (1) develop correct hand position,
(2) practice correctly, (3) learn to pedal correctly, and (4) develop and
good sense of rhythm.
